To be honest has come to be such a common phrase in English that it deserves its very own acronym!
TO BE HONEST, I DON’T REALLY FEEL LIKE GOING OUT TONIGHT → TBH I DON’T REALLY FEEL LIKE GOING OUT TONIGHT.
I NEVER GOT ALONG WITH HIM, TO BE HONEST. → I NEVER GOT ALONG WITH HIM, TBH.
TO BE HONEST, I DON’T THINK THIS RELATIONSHIP IS WORKING OUT. → TBH I DON’T THINK THIS RELATIONSHIP IS WORKING OUT.
Normally, this abbreviation is texted over the phone or a few other messaging system (on facebook or instagram), yet it can sometimes be used in spoken speech as well, generally by youngsters who have the tendency to text frequently or are attempting to be amusing. When spoken, it is pronounced T-B-H (ti-bi-aitch).
Likewise note that there is not really a common capitalization or punctuation requirement for TBH and similar expressions, since texted speech itself is not extremely standard.
Youngsters tend to write it out lowercase (either tbh or Tbh), with or without a comma following it. Those that are less tech-savvy could spell it out in all caps (TBH).
