Ever wonder why some Facebook cover images look far better compared to others on mobile? The response is constantly a wonderful developer (not that I'm biased or anything), but I recently discovered an awesome method to assist less of your hard work obtain cut off when seeing from a mobile device-- and also still look terrific on desktop computer.
Dreadful as I go to remembering numbers, I'm constantly googling "FB cover picture dimension" (or viewing our quick-reference infographic), and also the initial answer that constantly turns up is 851 × 315, which is what the cover picture displays at on a desktop internet browser. If your only concern is desktop, this is a fine size to post your cover picture. However, we can not neglect the 798 million individuals who access Facebook daily through their mobile phones.
Before I found this method, options for optimizing a cover photo for both desktop & mobile were extremely restricted: either make the focal point very tiny to show appropriately on mobile, or make it look good on desktop computer and also compromise the mobile experience.
Ugh.
OK, I'll cut to the chase. Post a picture that is 851 × 475. With cover photos taller than desktop computer programs, two things occur:.
Desktop computer removes the top & base of the photo (the good news is, it removes an equivalent quantity from both).
Mobile will certainly still remove some of the sides of the photo, but we have a dramatically larger readable area.
